Firm Reaches $32M Settlement in Defective Dental Crown Suit

Burns Charest attorneys were part of a legal team that reached a $32.5 million settlement in proposed class action litigation brought by dentists who claimed 3M knowingly sold faulty dental crown products that popped out of patients’ mouths, then failed to follow through with its warranty.

The firm’s Warren Burns told Law360 that 3M’s willingness to come to the table to reach a deal had a lot to do with the companies relationships with the class members.

“The people who are in the class are existing 3M clients so it’s not surprising that 3M is going to be very careful with a settlement that impacts their existing customer base. 3M was concerned about doing the right thing by their clients and fix this problem,” he said.
